The SGS Difference:

Purchasing Capacity

Based in Brisbane, with national operations in Sydney, Darwin, Townsville and Cairns, SGS has invaluable purchasing capacity allowing bulk buying savings to be passed to customers.  We also have established ties with an extensive network of growers, covering numerous territories, both local and international, many of whom cultivate and market crops solely for SGS or Kingpak Australia (the grower’s agent division of SGS).

Commitment to Quality

Simon George & Sons was the first company to attain Quality Assurance Acreditation under AS ISO 9002 – obtained at the first audit.  We were also the first to achieve full HACCP accreditation under the SQF 2000 Food Safety Program – encompassing fresh fruit and vegtables, processed fruit and vegetables and fresh juice production.

Licensed Exporters and Importers

With both an Import Licence (No 5876) and Export Licence (No 3174) and operating as a Licensed Farm Produce Commercial Seller, operating a selling floor at the Brisbane Markets, SGS has unrivalled access to interstate wholesale markets and year round purchases direct from the farm.  Established relationships ensure continuity of supply.  SGS exports to New Zealand, Fiji, PNG, the Phillipines, Singapore, Malaysia and Hong Kong.

Technology Systems

We have the industry’s leading computer system, allowing for vastly improved efficiencies and unparalleled flexibility for our customers in terms of receiving pricing, placing orders and retaining historical data.  We are able to cater to customers preferences and generate personalized picking slips, invoices, delivery sheets and statements.  Our e-commerce systems continue to evolve and improve towards a fully integrated Business-to Business system.

The commissioning of our Brisbane facility in 1999 put Simon George and Sons out in front, on its own, among providores in Australia – with the capacity to house our fresh fruit and vegetable distribution, as well as our processed fruit and vegetable plant, within the one building.  The purpose built facility was fully temperature controlled, which, combined with refrigerated vehicles, ensured the cool supply chain remained unbroken.

The subsequent construction of facilities in Cairns, Townsville and Darwin, modeled on Brisbane, has provided us great capacity to service the growth markets in the north of Australia, as well as allowing unmatched efficiencies and savings exporting quality product to our northern, international neighbours.    SGS began operating in Sydney in late 2009, through the purchase of “Pardy Provedores”, servicing a mix of shipping, export & food service customers.  Learn more about our locations and facilities.

Environmental Sustainability

Simon George and Sons recognises its responsibility to consider the effect of our business activities on the environment and we are committed to ensuring we minimise our impact.  Practical initiatives we adopt include water savings, via Water Efficiency Management Plans and new truck washing facilities, that use collected rainwater.  We purchase more fuel efficient delivery vehicles and use bio replacement fuels where possible.  We have also taken steps to reduce our paper trail through our digital technology systems.  Learn more about the sustainabilty of our operations and practice.

Clients & Large Contracts

Simon George and Sons supplies a number of large customers – many of whom have been clients for many years.  We greatly value the custom of our larger and smaller clients and feel this repeated custom is the best endorsement of the quality of our products and services.

A Family Business

We are proud of the fact that we remain a true, Australian, family founded, owned and run business, in a marketplace that has been increasingly populated by large corporate entities – and a “turnstile” of operators.  We believe this gives us several important, inimitable advantages over our competitors.  While we have grown in size, the family ethos and values of our business remain the same – the beneficiaries of which, are our customers.  Learn more about our story.
